A Level Drama Theatre Trip
We recently took seventeen Drama A-Level students on an educational theatre trip to the recently revived West End show ‘Waiting for Godot’. The trip was organised by Mr Deamer (Head of the Department for Drama) and was open to all A-level Drama students (Year 12 and 13) to prepare them for their ‘Live Theatre’ exam question in their upcoming exams.
The trip was a true success and students thoroughly enjoyed going into London and seeing the big city and most importantly the show itself. The faculty and students travelled by train to London Charing Cross and then walked through Trafalgar Square to the Theatre Royal Haymarket where they attended the matinee performance of ‘Waiting for Godot’. The students were so well behaved and was positive representation of the schools ethos.
The show brought the somewhat challenging text to life and gave the students a new perspective on how to interpret the ‘meaningless’ dialogue, which will help to develop their writing within section C of their exam. The students were so immersed in the stunning performance from Ben Whishaw and Lucian Msamati you could hear a pin drop. The sophistication, understanding and passion that the students showed when discussing the show back at Trinity was truly amazing and I am sure this experience will stay with the pupils for a long time yet to come, as well as having a positive impact on their learning and writing. We would like to thank both students and staff for such an amazing trip!
