Visit from Lord Evans, the retired Director General of MI5

Last week we were very honoured to receive a visit from Lord Evans, the retired Director General of MI5, who came to Trinity to talk to the 6th form, as part of the Friday Lecture Programme.

The Security Service, also MI5, is the United Kingdom’s domestic counter-intelligence and security agency and is part of its intelligence machinery alongside the Secret Intelligence Service, Government Communications Headquarters and Defence Intelligence. MI5’s mission is to keep the country safe.

Students in the Sixth form were fortunate to hear how the agency works and what different roles employees may do.

“It is rare that we get to hear, first hand, the details of how MI5 works, so having Lord Evans come to talk to us was an educational experience. His engaging talk on the life of a spy encouraged me to reconsider the different options for my future, and think outside the box.”
