At the end of the 2018 summer term, 14 students took part in an expedition to Tanzania. It was an incredible trip which included working with the charities Tupendane and Better Lives, to build vegetable gardens in a school in the village of Kahe, which was an hour away on a bumpy bus ride from the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Before Tupendane, most of the students in Kahe went to school without any breakfast and sometimes would not eat for the whole day. The gardens we helped build will enable the students and teachers to eat breakfast and lunch while they are at school, and they will also teach the children how to harvest their own food in the future.
While we were in Tanzania the students also went on a safari, spent the night in a Masai village, trekked through beautiful tea plantations and went scuba diving in Zanzibar. It was a truly amazing experience and we hope to return to the village of Kahe for another expedition in the future.
These are just some of the photographs taken of our trip. All photographs can be viewed in our Image Gallery: Tanzania Expedition 2018.
